Ask for a brand identity and you may get a one-page logo sheet or a hundred-page manual. Neither is automatically right. What matters is whether the pieces help you show up consistently.
The essentials
Every young business needs a small, solid kit that can stretch to fit anything it makes next.
- Logo in a main version and a small version
- Colours with exact values for screen and print
- Typography that works on a phone and on a brochure
- A way of speaking, even if it is only a few written notes
What can wait
Custom illustration sets, long guideline documents and detailed campaign systems are all useful, but they rarely matter on day one. Add them once you know how the brand is really being used.
Test it on real things
Before signing off, try the identity on a business card, an Instagram post and a website header. If it works on all three, it will probably work anywhere.
A brand is finished when other people can use it without calling you.
Start with the essentials, use them everywhere and let the system grow with the business.
